It is with immense disappointment that I watch the unfolding of statements from the Ontario government regarding the future of Ontario Place.
The way in which the provincial government is approaching the redevelopment of this crucial and iconic part of our city is simply unacceptable. The Ford government’s hasty decision to eliminate the governing body of Ontario Place, and the reckless manner in which it is considering the future of this site is nothing short of appalling.
Any decision to be taken on the future of Ontario Place must, first and foremost, consider the best interest and opinion of Torontonians. A public consultation process must be undertaken without excuse. The building of a Casino at Ontario Place is unacceptable under any circumstance.
The people of Toronto, local communities, and the City must be properly consulted on the future of Ontario Place, so that this historic, cultural, and iconic part of the city is not squandered.
I would like to assure the residents of Spadina–Fort York that I will continue to advocate for the best interest of our community and for the future of Ontario Place.
I will continue to make sure the voices of Spadina–Fort York residents are heard.
